Austin McChord

Co-Managing Partner

Austin founded Datto as a college student in his parents' basement. Datto started as a data backup and recovery company and went on to become the leading provider of cloud-based software and technology solutions purpose-built for delivery through managed service providers (MSPs). He ran the company as CEO, transforming the MSP industry from a static, break-fix business into a recurring revenue technology ecosystem. Datto was sold to Vista Equity Partners for $1.3 billion in 2017. After leaving as CEO, Austin remained a major shareholder and Board member through the company’s IPO and subsequent $6.2 billion sale to Kaseya in July 2022. After leaving Datto, Austin became a Venture Partner at General Catalyst, focusing on early-stage investments on the east coast.

A graduate, trustee, and 2017 commencement speaker of the Rochester Institute of Technology, McChord is the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions including Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in 2015 and E&Y Tech Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016.

Austin earned recognition as one of the nation's top 50 philanthropists in 2017 and is the world-record holder for the world’s largest Googly eyes which he has hung from the Outsiders Fund Headquarters in Norwalk, CT
